Dog Friendly Deep Creek

Dog Days of Summer at Deep Creek Lake

Pick up your pooch and hit the lake this summer! Deep Creek Lake is a major dog friendly destination, so you don’t have to leave man or woman’s best friend behind while you enjoy everything the lake has to offer!

A recent addition to the wonderful Deep Creek Lake community has been the newly constructed HART for Animals Center. This tremendous new center offers many luxuries that cater to your pups and old friends alike!

Recently, in February of 2014, the center opened the Bredel Veterinary Care Center, a full service clinic, theBed ‘n Bark Inn, a pet hotel so that your pet can enjoy a stay at Deep Creek Lake even if your vacation rental isn’t dog friendly, the Head to Tails Salon, where your puppy can be pampered like the king or queen he or she really is, and the HART Shoppe, a modern store with a great lineup of basic puppy essentials! All four of these operations in the new HART for Animals Center are a tremendous asset to pet owners looking to escape to Deep Creek Lake!

Don’t forget to check regulations before you bring your four-legged friends to the Deep Creek Lake State Park! This park and many others have seasonal restrictions on pet admittance, and many don’t allow dogs until later in the summer.

Don’t fret though, as there are numerous activities you and your best friend can enjoy! There are several trails and hiking paths that provide great exercise for you and your dog. Year-round access to the Browning, Beckman, and Garrett Camp loops and several other locations near Deep Creek Lake are great opportunities for a little exercise for your pooch.

That’s not all! As you’ll see, Deep Creek Lake is an incredibly dog-friendly destination that is well-known for its consideration for dogs. There are many dog friendly vacation rentals available to book for your summer vacation to Deep Creek, and many local restaurants that welcome dogs with open arms as well!

Some of the local restaurants that cater to our four-legged friends are The Crab Shack, Sorellee’s Pizza Pub, Lakeside Creamery, Archie’s Barbeque, and Trader’s Coffee House, which even has a canine hitching post! Check out Deep Creek Lake’s nearly endless pet owner perks, and be sure to check out the many dog friendly rentals available at Dog Friendly Deep Creek.

HART for Animals

HART For Animals Gets a New Facility

At Dog Friendly Deep Creek, we’ve always had a special place in our hearts for HART for Animals, Inc, a local non-profit dedicated to saving the lives of homeless pets in Garrett County. Since 2003 when HART first opened it’s doors, 5,000 animals have been rescued from euthanasia by transporting them from the County’s animal shelters to more populous locations where they have a greater chance of adoption.

We are very pleased to announce that HART recently opened a brand-new facility called the HART Animal Center, and the grand opening is coming up! The beautiful new Animal Center was 10 years in the making and has been a goal of the organization since HART was first founded. The 12,000 sq ft facility opened in March, 2014, and was created to save and protect rescued animals. The Adoption Wing is the core of the Center, and to support this part of the facility, HART operates a full-service veterinary practice, a pet hotel, grooming services, retail store, and a dog training operation. Profits from these services will support the adoption area, alongside fundraising and grants.

The expansive adoption wing has space for 60 dogs, 30 puppies, 40 cats, and many litters of ok 0 kittens. Being the dog and animal lovers that we are, we are so excited to welcome HART’s new Animal Center to our area. If you’ll be staying with us in May, please stop by HART Animal Center’s Open House on May 3, 2014 from noon to 5pm! Tour the new center, check out the Bed ‘n Bark Inn and MUTTWorks, the pet grooming center. There will also be a petting zoo, a pet adoption area, fun kids activities, and food!

While we have a large amount of dog friendly rental properties in Deep Creek, please check out HART Animal Center if you find yourself in a vacation rental that doesn’t allow pets, or if you’re not going to be participating in dog-friendly activities while on vacation. Your dog will love the Bed ‘n Bark Inn!

“Have a HART” Guest Bartender Nights

“Have a HART” Guest Bartender Nights

“Have a HART” Guest Bartender Night (formerly PAWS “Passion for Pets”) continues this year at three locations in the Deep Creek Lake area, all to benefit HART for Animals’ SNAP (Spay/Neuter Assistance Program). Locals become bartenders from 6:00-9:00 PM at the following locations: JG’s Pub on May 8,The Harbor Bar at Dutch’s on May 23 and Black Bear Tavern on June 19, donating their tips to the cause. Raffles, giveaways, and entertainment will round out each of the evenings.

Partners for Animal Welfare and Safety (PAWS) and HART for Animals have joined forces to continue efforts to save homeless animals in Garrett County and the surrounding area. For the past three years, PAWS has partnered with HART to provide spay/neuter assistance by giving discount vouchers to eligible pet owners in the community. HART will continue the PAWS SNAP and provide spay/neuter vouchers to those who qualify. Funding for the program will be raised through events, such as “Have a HART” Guest Bartender Nights.
